Epoxy vs Polyaspartic vs Garage Floor Paint: Which Holds Up in Bloomington?

Three products, three different answers to a Bloomington winter, and the choice turns on the slab temperature the day of the install and the brine that lands on it in January.
Three products that get called epoxy
Garage floor paint is a one-part, usually water-based product that dries by evaporation into a thin film. Professional epoxy is a two-part resin and hardener that cures by reaction; the 100 percent solids versions carry no solvent, so the thickness that goes down is the thickness that stays. Polyaspartic is a two-part aliphatic polyurea, usually a topcoat over an epoxy base, that cures fast, stays clear in sunlight and tolerates a colder slab. The data sheets show the difference. One 100 percent solids epoxy lists a pot life of 20 to 25 minutes per 3-gallon kit and adhesion above 300 psi, with the concrete failing before the bond. The winter test: brine, grit and the overhead door

A standard epoxy wants the concrete at 50 degrees F or warmer, so in either shoulder month an unheated slab is usable only on warm afternoons. The polyaspartic data sheet allows a substrate down to 40 degrees F with 60 to 90 optimal, which turns the shoulders into working months. Garage paint instructions generally assume room temperature, and a cold, slow-drying paint film prints every footstep.
None of the three works in a Bloomington January, when the high fails to reach 32 degrees F on 22.7 days; that is a heated-space month. Polyaspartic's cold-end advantage is a matter of weeks at each end of the season, not a winter product.
What one day means at Bloomington humidity

The 100 percent solids epoxy runs an 8 to 12 hour recoat, foot traffic at 12 to 24 hours and a 7 day full cure. One day describes the crew's time on site, not the day the car comes back.
Humidity stretches all of it. Both professional data sheets cap ambient humidity at 85 percent and require the slab to sit 5 to 5.5 degrees F above the dew point. On a normal mid-July day at MSP the dew point holds at 61 to 62 degrees F around the clock, so a slab that cooled overnight can be below it at 6 a.m., and a polyaspartic mixed and rolled inside 15 to 20 minutes leaves no room to wait for the sun. The fastest product needs the most careful start.
Flake, metallic or solid color
The finish is a separate decision. A full flake broadcast adds build and hides grit scratches; a metallic pour is a showpiece for a heated tuck-under or basement but exposes every tire lane in a working garage; a solid color is the easiest to touch up and the quickest to show salt film. The decision in five lines
